essei 's Bio
My artwork reflects how the world appears to me. I have Bipolar Type I and I feel as if the world is discombobulated sometimes. The funny thing is that I paint in bright colors, but do not always see a bright world. In fact, it can be a rather dark place for me at times. I have experienced life in varying degrees. I have been comfortable and I have been homeless. I have seen the many sides that life has to offer. Even before I was homeless in San Francisco, I had a fascination with graffiti. I like how things can be simplified in outlines or in bright colored lines and the sometimes collage arrangements of graffiti. I have been to The Butterfly House in Faust Park in Chesterfield, Missouri. It was a real eye opening experience. I was mystified by how something so small can have such a large impact on the world. I believe this is why I paint insects so large. That and it’s just plain fun to paint something that is meant to be small in a perspective that is unusual.
